ANZAC Day 2008

This year has seen a very busy time for all 3 sections, starting off with Australia day which was followed by Anzac Day.

As a group we decided to make it a special occasion for the Youth members, and so we all camped in the scout hall on the eve of Anzac Day. We had a great dinner cooked by the scouts which was followed by the movie "Gallipoli" and then off to bed. (for some anyway) the excitement of all 3 sections camping in the hall at the same time made some restless with mischief on their minds...

Falcon woke everyone around 4am with a rousing that will never be forgotten, (the pots and pans will never be the same again.
After ironing the cubs, Joey scouts, Scouts and Leaders uniforms the night before I was very proud to see how smart they all looked when we set off from the hall for the short walk to the cenotaph at the RSL club for the dawn service.

The kids handed out the program to the hundreds of attendees, and laid a wreath along with others at the foot of the memorial.

It was a moving experience and I was proud to have been able to share it with such great people.

After the service we headed back to the Hall for Pancakes with maple syrup !!! Yummy Scrummy....
And before we knew it we were off again, this time with 2000 Australian flags to hand out to spectators along the route of the Parade.
We proudly marched alongside the Lennox Scout Group and Ballina Girl guides

The behavior and the big turn out from the Ballina Group for the Dawn Service and the parade was absolutely brilliant.

A very proud AKELA
