Thrills and Skills Cub Camp 2008
The October long weekend saw every Cub pack in the region descend on Glenreagh for an action packed weekend full of fun and games.
The weekend was based around the theme of "Spies" and with this is in mind the different groups in the region ran a total of 20 bases over the weekend ranging from, Code Breaking, Invisible ink and Phonetics spelling, Tracking signs, Signal lights and Millemurra and I ran an AUSLAN (Australian Sign Language) base where we taught the Cubs the alphabet and many simple signs such as Compass, Please and Thankyou
.

The Cubs learned so quickly and it was a joy to teach them.
As usual on any camp Ballina stood out as being an organised group that has fun and still gets the job done, this I have to say was all down to the Cub Parents, we had 15 parents volunteer their weekend to come on camp and basically do everything for us. before the camp Millemurra and I had many an hour organising the camp and putting together a parent roster for the weekend so they all knew what to do and when to do it, and I have to take my hat off to the parents for the Awesome job they did in making sure the food was there and the kids were safe. So a Big thank you to all parents who came.
But not only did we stand out by what we did, but we stood out by what we wore as well, Millemurra and I decided a while ago that with the sheer numbers of Cubs that we have, you can tend to loose them in the crowd on a camp. Well not anymore !!! Give them all an orange shirt and everyone knows they're from Ballina !!!

Everywhere we went for 2 days we wore the orange shirts with pride, they even have a screen-print on the front that was designed by Millemurra that told everyone where we were from.
On Saturday night we had a Disco put on for us, and when I say put on for US I do mean for US, because we conga'd from camp and descended upon the Disco like a Tornado, and nothing was going to stop Ballina from being the best Groovers and Shakers that Glenreagh has ever seen... There were some rather amazing moves from some of the parents but the big stand-outs were Patrick (John Travolta eat your heart out), John (the Gravy man), Paul (the Water boy) (and Patrick (Yes Patrick deserved a double mention) The DJ copped a bit of flack from us as his choice of music was rather dubious, but the Nutbush, Macarana, YMCA and the dreaded Chicken song brought us back to life. And we ruled the dance floor at Glenreagh !!!
I was very proud that The Regional Commissioner selected Ballina to Give the Dibs at closing and also have a Cub represent us for the closing flag ceremony as well.

Go Ballina!
Every group of Cubs was given a code to break over the weekend, and I am very proud to say that Ballina were the first team to break the code and give the correct answer to the Akela from Byron bay, and they did it without any help from adults.
The Cubs and parents we have are by far the most fun and energetic group I have ever seen, and everyone was asking when's the next camp. Well not ones to disappoint, Millemurra and I have already been planning term 1 of next year and we will be having a camp or 2 !! one will be a Cubs and Joey Scouts family camp and the other a Cub Camp. So keep an eye out for your term 1 program which will be handed out before the end of term 4 along with all paperwork for that term.
I must extend a Massive thank you to Millemurra for all of her hard work and dedication that she shows to the Cub Pack. Even though she has her own Joey Scout mob to run, she always finds time to help on every Cub activity, and without her help and advice the task would be to great. So a huge 1-2-3 WOLF for Millemurra.
